Originally from England, Rowan set out in search of an adventure and found it in a life on Canada’s West Coast.
After gaining her undergraduate degree in Linguistics from the University of Victoria, she kept following her passion for travel and moved to Vancouver to enter the travel industry and join Discover Holidays.
Outside of the office, you will find her baking sweet treats, taking those treats on long hikes, and eating them on top of mountains.
What is your favorite place in Canada?
Vancouver Island was the part of Canada that first captured my heart and called me to make it my home. It will forever be my favourite place in the country. The island has everything you need — rugged coasts, enchanting temperate rainforests, and charming towns — all right next to each other. It’s an incredible place, and I’m lucky I got to live there for my first 3 years in Canada.
What is your best travel memory in Canada?
My first time hiking in the backcountry near Whistler. The feeling of being entirely surrounded by untouched wilderness with not another person in sight is truly breathtaking (and not just because you scaled a mountain to see it).
What one thing in Canada should you experience at least once in your life?
Experiencing the extraordinary landscape that Canada has to offer should be top of anyone’s bucket list. Be it the gorgeous Rocky Mountains, the unnaturally (natural) blue glacial lakes, or the view of the gulf islands from the ferry between Vancouver and Victoria, while here you have to get out and into nature.
