Yukon and the Northwest Territories Trips | Canada Vacations

The Yukon and Northwest Territories form Canada’s wild frontier, where immense wilderness, unique wildlife and colorful history come together.

Historically home to Inuits, traders and gold prospectors, the landscape certainly is rugged.

However, our Canada specialists have conquered this remote region in order to help you plan your ideal Yukon and Northwest Territories Vacation.

Yukon & Northwest Territories INTRODUCTION

WhitehorseNamed after the rapids on the Yukon River that reminded gold prospectors of the 'flowing manes of albino Appaloosas', Whitehorse was built by those who flooded to the region at the height of the Klondike gold rush.

WhitehorseNamed after the rapids on the Yukon River that reminded gold prospectors of the 'flowing manes of albino Appaloosas', Whitehorse was built by those who flooded to the region at the height of the Klondike gold rush. Having survived the arduous Chilkoot Trail it was here that they set up camp, what has since become the capital of Canada's Yukon Territory. Kluane National Park Established in 1972, this gem of a park covers 21,980 square kilometres in the south-west corner of the Yukon. It is a land of precipitous mountains, the world's largest non-polar ice fields and lush valleys where Dall sheep, grizzly bears, moose, lynx, wolves, eagles and falcons thrive. It is also home to Mount Logan, which is Canada's highest peak. Dawson CityA National Historic Site, Dawson City once had the richest gold mine of all time, and was at the heart of the Klondike gold rush where nearly 100,000 people risked their lives to seek their fortunes. Today you can visit the Palace Grand Theatre, Diamond Tooth Gertie’s Gambling House, the Robert Service and Jack London cabins and the Dawson City Museum. Northwest Territories Stretching from the 60th parallel in the south to the Beaufort Sea in the north, the Northwest Territories is so enormous that light aircraft flights are typically the best way to get around. To the west, the sharp, snowy peaks of the Mackenzie Mountains form a definitive border with the Yukon. This is also one of the best places in the world to see the Northern Lights.
