The Capital of Canada's Polar Bear Tours

Situated in northern Manitoba on the edge of Hudson Bay, the small town of Churchill is famous for its Canada polar bear tours.

An area of unique diversity where taiga, tundra, boreal forest and coastal estuary meet, it provides a prime habitat for polar bears alongside a range of other creatures like beluga whales, foxes, wolves, moose and arctic hares.

Each autumn the area’s polar bears venture onto the newly-frozen pack ice to hunt for seals, but there are good reasons to visit in the summer months too. In July and August thousands of Beluga whales migrate to the chilly waters of the Churchill River, while polar bears begin to make their way off the ice, arriving pure white and gorgeous. Sights to see in town include the Polar Bear Compound which houses orphan cubs and anti-social adults, an excellent Eskimo Museum and Cape Merry National Historic Site.
