Grand Canada Railway Hotels | Fairmont Chateau Lake Louise
INTRODUCTION
The Fairmont Chateau Lake Louise is a renowned luxury resort nestled on the eastern shore of Lake Louise in Alberta's Banff National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Encircled by the majestic Canadian Rockies and overlooking the turquoise waters of Lake Louise, the hotel offers guests unparalleled access to outdoor adventures and breathtaking natural beauty. The origins of the Chateau date back to 1890 when the Canadian Pacific Railway constructed a modest one-story log cabin, known as the Lake Louise Chalet, to accommodate alpinists and outdoor enthusiasts. This initial structure featured a central area serving as a dining room, office, bar, and gathering space, along with a kitchen and two small bedrooms. As tourism in the area grew, the chalet underwent several expansions. In 1913, the Painter Wing was added, showcasing a unique Château-style architecture with elements inspired by the Italian Renaissance. Despite a fire in 1924 that destroyed the original wooden Rattenbury Wing, the hotel was rebuilt and continued to flourish. Over the years, it transformed into a year-round luxury resort, welcoming guests from around the world. Today, the Fairmont Chateau Lake Louise boasts 539 elegantly appointed rooms and suites, many offering stunning views of Lake Louise and the surrounding mountains.
