Day 1 Winnipeg | Arrival & Winter Gear Fitting
Arrive in Winnipeg and settle in at The Grand by Lakeview at Winnipeg Airport. Before dinner, meet the Churchill Wild team for your winter gear fitting and collection, ensuring you are prepared for the Arctic conditions ahead. This evening, join your fellow travellers and a Churchill Wild representative for an orientation dinner and introduction to your Great Ice Bear adventure. (Dinner is included today.)
Day 2 Winnipeg to Churchill | Flight to Dymond Lake Ecolodge
Fly north from Winnipeg to Churchill, where Churchill Wild staff will meet you and coordinate your onward transfer by fixed-wing aircraft to Dymond Lake Ecolodge. The short flight follows the historic Churchill River before turning northwest along the rugged Hudson Bay coast, with possible sightings of moose, wolves and polar bears along the way.
Arrive at remote Dymond Lake Ecolodge, set near the treeline where boreal forest meets the tundra. After meeting your hosts and settling into your room, enjoy lunch followed by an important orientation on travelling in polar bear country.
This afternoon, set out with your guides for your first walk along the starkly beautiful Hudson Bay coastline. Return to the Lodge for dinner and an interpretive presentation on the wildlife and ecosystems of the region. If skies are clear, head to the Lodge's dedicated viewing tower or secure outdoor areas to watch for the northern lights. (Breakfast, lunch & dinner are included today.)
Days 3 to 5 Dymond Lake Ecolodge | Polar Bear & Arctic Wildlife Activities
Spend three full days exploring the snow-covered tundra around Dymond Lake Ecolodge with Churchill Wild's experienced guides. Each morning, the day's program is shaped around wildlife activity and conditions, allowing extra time when polar bears or other Arctic wildlife are close to the Lodge.
Guided Tundra Walks
Head out on comfortably paced guided walks designed to provide time for wildlife observation, photography and interpretation. Explore polar bear country on foot while watching for polar bears, Arctic hare, foxes, snowy owls and other northern wildlife against the early-winter landscapes of Hudson Bay.
Lodge Wildlife Viewing & Photography
Wildlife may also appear close to Dymond Lake Ecolodge, creating opportunities to observe and photograph the surrounding wilderness from the warmth of the Lodge's large windows or its secure outdoor viewing areas. Your guides monitor wildlife activity throughout your stay so the daily program can respond when special opportunities arise.
Northern Lights Viewing | Conditions Permitting
As darkness settles across the tundra, watch the sky for the possible appearance of the northern lights. The Lodge's viewing tower and secure compound provide excellent locations for enjoying the night sky, while Churchill Wild staff monitor conditions and may alert guests when the aurora appears.
Evening Presentations
Return to the Lodge each afternoon for appetizer hour followed by a tundra-inspired dinner. Evenings typically feature informative presentations and discussions led by Churchill Wild's guides and staff, providing deeper insight into polar bears, Arctic wildlife, local ecosystems and life along Hudson Bay. (Breakfast, lunch & dinner are included each day.)
Day 6 Dymond Lake Ecolodge to Churchill | Guided Churchill Tour
After a final breakfast at Dymond Lake Ecolodge, board your aircraft for the return flight along the Hudson Bay coast to Churchill, with another opportunity to enjoy sweeping aerial views across the northern landscape.
Back in Churchill, join a local guided tour exploring the town and surrounding area while learning about its history as an Arctic seaport and former military community. Stops may include the Parks Canada exhibit, Itsanitaq Museum and Polar Bear Jail, while your guide will also point out colourful murals created as part of the SeaWalls mural festival.
Enjoy some free time to browse Churchill's shops before gathering for a group dinner. Tonight, settle into your local Churchill hotel or B&B for an overnight stay before tomorrow's Tundra Buggy® adventure. (Breakfast, lunch & dinner are included today.)
Day 7 Churchill | Chartered Tundra Buggy® Tour | Flight to Winnipeg
Today, experience polar bear country from a completely different perspective aboard a chartered Tundra Buggy®. Travel across the Churchill Wildlife Management Area and surrounding tundra, where the elevated vehicle provides expansive views across the frozen landscape while you watch for polar bears and other Arctic wildlife.
Lunch is served during your time on the tundra, allowing you to spend the day exploring this remarkable Hudson Bay environment. After returning to Churchill, transfer to the airport for your evening flight south to Winnipeg. Upon arrival, return to The Grand by Lakeview at Winnipeg Airport for your final overnight. (Breakfast, lunch & dinner are included today.)
Day 8 Winnipeg | Departure
After a restful night, check out of your hotel and make your own way to Winnipeg Airport for your onward flight. Your Great Ice Bear adventure comes to an end after eight days combining ground-level tundra exploration, remote lodge wilderness, Churchill history and a classic Tundra Buggy® experience.
