Day 1 Winnipeg | Arrival
Known for its friendly and welcoming spirit, Winnipeg is a diverse multicultural city with a rich and varied history. An aboriginal trading center prior to the arrival of Europeans, Winnipeg was at the heart of the country's fur trade and instrumental in developing Canada's gateway to the west. Home to a grain exchange that once rivaled the largest markets in the world, Winnipeg's architecture and neighborhoods reflect the profound character of this small prairie town.
Day 2 Winnipeg to Churchill | Flight
This morning head to the airport for a flight to Churchill via the shuttle. A Lazy Bear Lodge guide will meet you upon arrival at Churchill Airport and transfer you to the lodge, where you will check in and meet your hosts for the next few days. This night, or any other night of your choice, enjoy your included dinner with sumptuous local cuisine at the Lazy Bear Café.
Day 3 Churchill | Wildlife Viewing Tour
Today you will explore the Churchill Wildlife Management Area (CWMA) and other viewing areas on one of Lazy Bear's Arctic Crawlers™, a specially-designed all-terrain vehicle. Along the way look for arctic fox, arctic hare, camouflaged ptarmigan and other wildlife. After your days adventure, return to the lodge for time in front of the cozy fireplace or in your warm room with comfy beds and all the modern amenities. (Breakfast and lunch included today)
Day 4 Churchill | Culture & Heritage Tour
The Cultural and Heritage Tour this morning will take you to Churchill and the surrounding areas to explore various historic sites. Stops include Cape Merry, an outside tour of the Polar Bear Jail (where bears go when they need to be relocated away from town), the famous plane crash site of ‘Miss Piggy’ and may other historic sites that make Churchill what it is today. This evening, you may have a chance to see the Northern Lights. (Breakfast included today)
This afternoon you will have an opportunity to explore the town on your own. You can visit the Itsanitaq Museum, the Parks Canada Museum, Town Complex, and gift shops with local Inuit art that Churchill has to offer. You’ll also have an evening (or afternoon, weather depending) dog mushing experience which includes a 1-mile dog mushing ride. The ride will be on sleds if there is snow and wheels if there is none or not quite enough. Since the dogs love to run, either ride will be exhilarating! Learn how the dogs are trained, plus hear many entertaining stories and enjoy local treats. Return to the authentic Lazy Bear Lodge for your final night in Churchill and last chance to see the Northern Lights. (Breakfast included today)
Day 5 Churchill to Winnipeg | Polar Bear Viewing + Flight
After your scrumptious breakfast at the Lodge, enjoy your final day in Churchill out on the tundra in the CWMA. Plenty of food will be provided including lunch, snacks and beverages on both tundra excursions. You will learn about the polar bears and explore the area where the polar bears wait for the winter icepack to freeze on the Hudson Bay. Curious and far from shy, the bears will sometimes come right alongside the vehicles to sneak a peak at their visitors. Today you will have an opportunity for dinner prior to being shuttled with the group to the airport for your flight back to Winnipeg and to check in at your airport hotel. (Breakfast and lunch included today)
