Grand Canada Railway Hotels | Fairmont Empress Hotel
INTRODUCTION
Situated along Victoria’s picturesque Inner Harbour, the Fairmont Empress stands as one of Canada’s most storied and beloved hotels. Opened in 1908, the hotel was originally commissioned by the Canadian Pacific Railway and designed by architect Francis Rattenbury, whose vision helped shape many of British Columbia’s landmark buildings. Built to accommodate travelers arriving by rail and steamship, the Empress quickly became a symbol of elegance and colonial charm.
Blending Edwardian grandeur with modern luxury, the Fairmont Empress has undergone extensive restorations to preserve its historical integrity while enhancing the guest experience. Its ivy-covered façade, soaring turrets, and majestic architecture have made it a National Historic Site of Canada.
The hotel features 431 beautifully appointed guest rooms and suites, many with views of the harbour or courtyard gardens.
