Grand Canada Railway Hotels | Fairmont Hotel Vancouver
INTRODUCTION
Nestled in downtown Vancouver, the Fairmont Hotel Vancouver—affectionately known as the "Castle in the City"—is a distinguished symbol of elegance and history. Since its grand opening in 1939, this Châteauesque-style hotel has been a cornerstone of the city's architectural and cultural landscape.
The Fairmont Hotel Vancouver is the third iteration to bear the "Hotel Vancouver" name. The original, a modest four-story structure, opened in 1888, followed by a more elaborate version in 1916. Construction of the current hotel began in 1928 but was delayed due to the Great Depression. It was finally completed in time to host King George VI and Queen Elizabeth during their 1939 royal tour of Canada.
Designed by architects John Smith Archibald and John Schofield, the hotel showcases Châteauesque architecture, characterized by its steep copper roof, ornate stonework, and grand facades. Over the decades, it has welcomed dignitaries, celebrities, and travelers from around the world.
The hotel features 557 elegantly appointed guest rooms and suites, blending classic charm with modern comforts.
REVIEWS
I can’t say enough my stay. A true 5-star++ boutique experience. Incredible service, good food, quiet, serene and just a joy. The staff was as good as anywhere (and might have even topped it). Now that I’ve had a taste of 5-star life, I will never go back.
