Born in Prince Rupert, British Columbia, Shannon has lived most of her life in Northern Ireland.
Her mom was in a traveling Irish showband in Canada in the 80’s, and thanks to that she now has both Canadian & Irish citizenship! Shannon has been in Travel and Tourism since the age of 17, starting at her local tourism office before moving onto travel agencies and tour operators specializing in North America.
Having always wanted to come back and call Canada her home again, she finally made that move in 2019.
Shannon is very passionate about this beautiful country and everything it has to offer to local and international travelers.
What is your best travel memory in Canada?
My best travel memory in Canada is road tripping through the Rockies in 2018. We stopped in Jasper, Lake Louise and Banff (for Canada Day!) and finished up with a visit to Radium Hot Springs. We did the Glacier Skywalk at the Columbia Icefields and I'd say it was the highlight of the trip. The Skywalk is a fully-accessible, cliff-edge walkway that leads to a glass-floored observation platform 280 meters (918ft) above the Sunwapta Valley. An absolute must do!
Tell us about a special discovery that you’ve made in Canada
The Lake Agnes Teahouse In Lake Louise, Alberta is at an altitude of 2,135m and is located at Lake Agnes. After about 3.5 km hike, the valley opens to reveal this beautiful lake location. Lake Agnes, Lake Louise and Mirror Lake are all known as the 'Lakes in the Clouds'. If you don’t want to hike, it can also be done on horseback. Once you arrive at the Tea house you can have sandwiches, soup & over 100 different kinds of tea. It truly was a special experience that I would recommend to anyone who loves scenery as much as I do!
What one thing in Canada should you experience at least once in your life?
The Okanagan Valley – located in Southern British Columbia – is one of the warmest regions in all of Canada. There are various cities and towns to explore including Penticton, Osoyoos, Kelowna and Vernon, which makes it perfect for road trips. During the summer, expect to find hot sun, an array of sandy beaches and tons of water sports and activities for all ages. Okanagan Lake provides the valley with some of the best swimming spots in B.C. and is also the most beautiful backdrop to the wineries, golf courses and ski resorts in the area. One of my favorite hotels in the Okanagan Valley is the Sparkling Hills Wellness Resort in Vernon – with 3.5 million Swarovski Crystals displayed throughout the hotel!
